Treason of thorns:
By Lauren E. Weymouth
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release date: September 10th 2019
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy
Violet Sterling has spent the last seven years in exile, longing to return to Burleigh House. One of the six great houses of England, Burleighâs magic always kept the countryside well. And as a child, this magic kept Violet happy, draping her in flowers while she slept, fashioning secret hiding places for her, and lighting fires on the coldest nights to keep her warm.
Everything shattered, though, when her father committed high treason trying to free Burleigh from the kingâs oppressive control. He was killed, and Vi was forced into hiding.
When sheâs given a chance to go back, she discovers Burleigh has run wild with grief. Vines and briars are crumbling the walls. Magic that once enriched the surrounding countryside has turned dark and deadly, twisting lush blooms into thorns, poisoning livestock and destroying crops. Burleighâs very soul is crying out in pain.
Vi would do anything to help, and soon she finds herself walking the same deadly path as her father all those years before. Vi must decide how far sheâs willing to go to save her houseâbefore her house destroys everything sheâs ever known.

The moment I saw the book cover, I couldn’t resist signing up for this tour. It’s really attracting and beautiful, as is the case to the other book of the same author “The Light Between Worlds”, I still haven’t read it yet but I’m sure I will one day. *tbr whimpers*
A good Caretaker puts her House before king. Before country. Before family. Before her own life, even.
I really enjoyed reading this book, I liked Violet and how much loyal and attached she’s to the house, she’s determined to help and fix it whatever the costs are, even though she suffered a lot because of it.
Wyn was quite mysterious; why was he even there?? What’s his role in the whole story? We understand later on that he’s been always there for Vi.How?? You should read it to find out đ. Nevertheless, he was one of my favorite characters along with Jed and Mira and Frey and Espie and Alfred.
I’ve never read a story where one of the main characters is a sentient house so I didn’t know what I was going to expect while I started reading it. But, wow the author really did a great job !! We could actually kind of feel its emotions and know more about throughout the book. Understanding how magic works was a bit of a struggle in the beginning, I liked it when the house showed memories; they make reading this story so much enjoyable!!
One day, my blood will run with its mortar.
One day, my bones will rest in its ground.
